We are so proud to have completed our inaugural We 2 R Poet’s project at Bugg Elementary, Smith Magnet Elementary, and Hodge Road Elementary schools in Wake County.

“I would like to thank Kimberly Burton, the Director of Title I Programs in the Wake County Public School System for her early support of this project, the teachers at Smith Magnet Elementary, Bugg Magnet Elementary, and Hodge Road Elementary who so kindly welcomed us into their classrooms, and last, but certainly not least, all the kids of these North Carolina schools that participated in our initiative with such delight and enthusiasm and whose poems are represented here. We are proud to have been a part of their poetic adventure.”

“When we first envisioned the We 2 R Poets project, we wanted a fun way to highlight the growing importance of literacy, especially among children. Poetry has always been one of the best ways for writers to explore the joy of words, and we at Regal House Publishing know very well how expressive young minds can be. What better way, then, for us to share our love of great writing than to design a poetry workshop meant for grade schoolers? We 2 R Poets builds on a foundation of literature lessons from the classroom, and encourages writers to compose original poems using their own experiences with favorite colors, animals, and activities as a starting point. In our workshops, we witnessed countless times the moment when creativity and learning came together, sparking a writer’s interest and inspiration. These poems are insightful, sincere expressions of curiosity, silliness, joy, and awareness, and we are pleased to have met so many amazing young poets!”

The 2019 We 2 R Poets poetry publication, He Won’t Get Fleas, ’cause He’s Hercules, was named for a line in the poem “My Five Cute Pets” by Jadyn Linton at Smith Elementary.
